Introducing Ventonia: MetOcean forecasting for safer and smarter marine operations
Whether you’re planning a complex installation, coordinating maintenance, or ensuring the safety of your crew and assets, having access to accurate, high-resolution meteorological and oceanographic (MetOcean) data is not just an advantage - it’s a necessity. That’s why we’re proud to introduce Ventonia, our new web portal designed to deliver the most detailed and reliable MetOcean forecasts available.
Ventonia: Your trusted partner for marine forecasting
Ventonia is a secure, password-protected web portal that provides access to high-resolution numerical atmospheric and oceanographic models for Northern Europe from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI).
The platform is “Made in Denmark” by Vento Maritime and is built to support professionals who demand precision, offering forecast data that are updated four times daily and available in hourly resolution for the first 60 hours.
The forecast data are displayed as graphs (as in figure 1), tables and maps.
Forecast data for an outlook out to 10 days is available in 3-hourly resolution.
Outside Northern Europe, forecast data is available from the global GFS, WW3 and HYCOM models from NOAA/NCEP.
And the best part? This is just the beginning. We’re committed to continuously evolving the platform, adding new features, and adapting to our customers’ needs.

Why Ventonia stands out
1. High-resolution, high-accuracy data
Ventonia leverages DMI’s state-of-the-art models, which are regularly verified and validated to ensure forecast accuracy. Our focus is on capturing small-scale events - such as rapidly developing storm lows - that can have significant impacts on marine operations.
2. Tailored forecasts for your offshore location
With Ventonia, you can access detailed forecast graphs, tables, and maps for specific locations. This means you get the data you need, where you need it, in a format that’s easy to interpret and act upon. An example of a table is displayed in figure 3. It is also possible to receive the forecast data by email as a PDF-file for your positions.
The forecast data is displayed as graphs and tables and can be sent up to 4 times a day.
3. Including all significant MetOcean parameters
From wind and wave forecast data to surface current and sea surface temperatures, Ventonia provides a full suite of MetOcean data. Besides of 10m mean winds and gusts, you’ll also have access to winds in 50m, 100m and 200m above mean sea level – especially designed for wind turbines, cranes and drilling rigs.
You can of course also see key wave parameters like significant wave height, swell height, wind waves – including directions and wave periods.
Other parameters like visibility and precipitation are available – including temperatures and humidity in 2m, 100m and 200m designed for sensitive maintenance work on wind turbines.
4. Probability forecasts for evaluating forecast confidence level
Probability forecasts based on ensemble forecasting are available for winds and wave heights for 10 days ahead. This is a valuable tool for evaluating the confidence level of the forecast data. An example is displayed in figure 2.
For operational planning it is crucial to know the confidence level of the forecasts you are going to base your operations on.

5. User-friendly interface
Our platform is designed with the customer in mind. Ventonia’s intuitive interface makes it simple to navigate through complex data, so you can quickly find the insights you need to make informed decisions - no matter if you use graphs, tables or maps. An example of a forecast map is displayed in figure 4.
6. Security and reliability
As a password-protected portal, Ventonia ensures that your data - and your operations - remain secure. You can trust that the information you rely on is both accurate and confidential.

How Ventonia supports your operations
- Planning: Use Ventonia’s detailed forecasts to plan marine operations with confidence, minimizing downtime and maximizing efficiency.
- Risk mitigation: Stay ahead of changing weather conditions with frequent updates, helping you avoid costly delays and ensure crew safety. Capturing small-scale events - such as sea breeze effects or rapidly developing storm lows – is only possible with a high-resolution model. The model we use has a horizontal grid distance of 2 km, which is one of the highest resolutions in Europe.
- Meteorological support: Based on forecast data from Ventonia, our duty forecasters are ready to support you in different ways – both by phone and in writing 24/7 - to support operational planning and enhancing safety.
